Admission Criteria
The following are criteria considered for admission at Teton Peaks.
- Adolescents who are age 12 through 17.
- Adolescents who are unable to maintain stability or effect progress in an outpatient setting and are in need of 24-hour care in a less restrictive setting than acute hospitalization.
- Adolescents who are assessed as intellectually, cognitively, and emotionally able to benefit from residential treatment.
- Adolescents who exhibit relatively stable control for a period of time so as not to represent a danger to self and others.
- Adolescents who are not actively assaultive, suicidal, self-destructive, or an extreme elopement risk.
- Adolescents who do not manifest grossly psychotic behaviors requiring containment.
- Adolescents who exhibit significant mental, emotional, or behavioral problems or needs that cannot be adequately served or treated in the existing home or school environment.
- All involved parties concur that Teton Peaks is the best available option for placement.
- DSM IV Axis 1 diagnosis
- Adolescents who do not present with severe sexual disorders, mental retardation, or have a primary axis II diagnosis.
Physical Plant
Teton Peaks is a 30-bed facility. The rooms are set up to house two residents per room. There is a private bathroom in each room. Each resident will have a closet, bed and desk in his room and a secure locker for personal items.
Teton Peaks has an indoor gymnasium, outdoor ropes course, outdoor basketball and tennis court, craft rooms, resident kitchen, and outdoor open courtyard.
Community Campus
As part of the Teton Peaks program, the entire surrounding area becomes part of the campus. Some of the local highlights include:
- Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks
- Numerous Idaho state parks
- Three major rivers: Snake, Teton, and Fall
- Lakes and reservoirs: Palisades, Yellowstone, Jackson, Ashton, Island Park, and American Falls
- Fremont County Sand Dunes
- Craters of the Moon National Monument
- Idaho State University and Eastern Idaho Technical College
